About the Event
Community ownership as a way of securing biodiversity within the context of a productive farm - and presenting a possible solution to the succession question. Read More...Join us to hear from Brendan and Alice Parsons, third generation tenant farmers at Rush Farm. Over 15 years ago the Parsons family purchased Rush Farm with the goal of transforming it into an organic, biodynamic mixed farm, however having lost their previous family farm due to a succession issue, they decided commuity ownership would be the safest way to carry on farming. In 2014, they welcomed over 500 co-owners to protect the farm and became biodynamic in perpetuity by creating the Stockwood Community Benefit Society.
At this time when many farmers are wondering how they will be able to secure their land and life’s work, Brendan and Alice will share the highs and lows of this unique and interesting way of farm ownership as means of insulating the farmland and providing stability, as well as how they work with the Stockwood Community Benefit Society to make sure that the farm is a successful business while embracing the requirements of a co-owned farm. The talk will also cover biodynamic farming and their journey so far into farming and farm diversification.
Please arrive at 11:45 am. The talk will start at midday, and lunch will be served at 1:00 pm.
After the talk, you will get a freshly prepared, nutritious lunch from the FarmED cafe where you will be able to network with other guests.
