Prof Karim Vahed shares tales of insects and other overlooked animals successfully reintroduced in the UK over the years. Read More...When people think about species reintroductions, the emphasis of late has tended to be on large vertebrate species, such as Beavers, Lynx and Golden eagles. In this talk, Professor Karim Vahed showcases some of the excellent work on invertebrate reintroductions in the UK that has taken place since the 1970s, such as the Wartbiter Bushcricket and Large Blue butterfly and will reflect on the lessons learned from these projects.
Join us for a Lunchtime Talk where you can find out all about the insect life that has been reintroduced into the UK, there will be plenty of time to ask questions to our speaker. This will be followed by a delicious farm-to-fork lunch in the FarmED Cafe.
About the Speaker
Prof Karim Vahed is England Manager for Buglife (The Invertebrate Conservation Trust) and a member of the England Species Reintroductions Task Force, an advisory body on conservation translocations in England. He is an entomologist with a special interest in crickets and bushcrickets.
Please arrive at 11:45 am. The talk will start at midday, and lunch will be served at 1:00 pm.
After the talk, you will get a freshly prepared, nutritious lunch from the FarmED Cafe where you will be able to network with other guests.
