All Things Honey!

Honey is complex, containing over 170 different substances which combine to give it a rich, distinctive flavour and consistency. It is arguably the most natural food in the world - the nectar from which the bees make it is produced by plants for no other purpose than for bees and pollinating insects to have a sweet meal. Yet what happens when honeybees forage on different plants? Can this affect the flavour or colour of the honey? What is the difference between runny and set honey? Why doesn’t honey ferment? Does honey really stay safe to eat forever? Does it really have healing powers (and if so, what are they?). Tony will share his knowledge, and of course there will be plenty of time to ask your own questions. 

About the speaker

Tony Yarrow is one of the FarmED Bee Team, and supplies our Cafe and kitchen with delicious honey all year round. Having been a beekeeper, and around the world of bees for the last 50 years, Tony has large breadth of knowledge about all things beekeeping and honey. Tony is also very passionate about teaching and passing on his skills, and he leads a few beekeeping courses at FarmED every year - which are very popular! This Lunchtime Talk is the perfect stepping stone into learning more about bees and honey. 

Starting with a tasting session featuring a variety of different honeys to kick things off, Tony will take us on an adventure through the world of honey. The talk will be followed by a delicious honey-themed lunch in our Cafe.

Please arrive at 11:45 am. The talk will start at midday, and lunch will be served at 1:00 pm.
