About the Event
Hear local artist, Judith Yarrow, talk in depth and explain what drives her recent work. Read More...Following on from her Oxfordshire Artweeks exhibition at Wise Investment in Chipping Norton (May 17th-26th), this is the perfect opportunity to hear Judith Yarrow talk more in depth about what drives her recent pieces. With reference to her residency at FarmED and her present and developing work on the temperate rainforests of North West Wales she will talk about how her art has increasingly become focused on the ecology of a specific place and the importance of wildlife diversity.
The area around the Mawddach Estuary in South Snowdonia is particularly rich in the rare habitats of The Celtic Rainforest. Judith has long standing family links to this area, which she regularly visits and whose mountains were her original inspiration for painting. Judith knew Guy Shrubsole as a child and his book ’The lost Rainforests of Britain’ alerted her to the riches to be found in the ancient remnants of the Celtic rainforests, found in the valleys there, which she always took for granted. Now she see the mosses, lichens, ferns, gorges and ancient oaks as worlds as grand as the mountains that frame them.
About the speaker
Judith is an accomplished artist, who was our 'artist in residence' back in 2022. Judith is actively interested in the environment, and having lived and worked on a farm in Wales in the past, FarmED feels like home.
