About the Event
Learn how honeybees live in the wild and how we can support these wonderful pollinators in this session with beekeepers, Tanya and Esme Hawkes. Read More...Join Tanya and Esme, the mother-daughter team behind the Tree Hive project at FarmED, to learn about how honeybees operate in the wild and discover what we can do to support these essential pollinators. We will explore the natural history of honeybees and look at how humans have interacted with bees over 4500 years – from honey hunters to modern-day industrial-scale beekeeping and everything in between.
Hear about the Tree Hives on the farm and other ‘free-living’ bee projects that you might like to get involved with. The talk will be rounded off with a tasting session of wild comb honey.

About the speaker:
Beekeeper, Tanya Hawkes, and biologist, Esme Hawkes, run the Tree Hive project at FarmED and are the mother-daughter duo behind the sustainable beauty brand, Therapi Honey Skincare. They are passionate about connecting people with nature and take an ecological, bee-centred approach to beekeeping - guided by the biology and nature of the honeybee. They look after 15-20 colonies of bees across four apiaries in the Cotswolds, using a variety of different hives.
Please arrive at 11:45 am. The talk will start at midday, and lunch will be served at 1:00 pm.
After the talk, you will get a freshly prepared, nutritious lunch from the FarmED cafe where you will be able to network with other guests.
