Introduction to Regenerative Agriculture is designed for people who are working for organisations connected to the wider food system or directly in agriculture, who are looking to gain a basic understanding of how to farm regeneratively.

The course will explore the question of ‘what is regenerative farming?’ and also look at why there is a need for change. We will discuss how policy and farming practices have contributed to today’s issues, but also how they can be used to try to re-establish a balanced and sustainable system.

During the day we will cover the six principles of regenerative agriculture, which includes the importance of considering context, plant diversity, integrating livestock and protecting the soil. We will look at how they can be applied to different farms and what benefits you can expect to see, as well as hearing from farmers who are already doing it.

There will also be an opportunity to take a deeper and practical look into soil health indicators and to see the regenerative practices that are being demonstrated here at FarmED.

You will leave this course having learnt about:

  • How to define regenerative agriculture
  • How agricultural policy drives change
  • The principles and benefits of regenerative agriculture
  • Basic soil health indicators

The course will be led by FarmED’s Farming Outreach Coordinator, Matt Elliott, and there will be a combination of indoor and outdoor learning, in the fields of our demonstration farm. You’ll also enjoy a farm to fork lunch and refreshments from the FarmED Cafe.
